5 Questions with: Abby Kahn, ABBsolutely Organized
1.) How did you get into the organizing business?
I have always been an organized person. Ever since I was little, I would help friends clean out their closets. When I was a teacher, one of my favorite things was setting up my classroom with fun decor and great organizational structure to help the kids be successful learners. Colleagues always asked for my help when setting up their classrooms. They wanted their classrooms to look like mine. My program coach joked around that I should have TV show where I can go into teacher's classrooms and help them organize and decorate it! After I had my daughter, I created a very colorful and inviting playroom. The playroom had a place for everything. There wasn't clutter everywhere. Friends would ask for advice and wanted my help about setting up their play spaces with function and purpose, and my business took off from there.
2.) What is your favorite part about your job?
I love helping people create functional spaces for their homes. I always take before and after photos of each project. The visual of beginning to end always makes my heart happy!
3.) What is your favorite Jewish food and why?
Chocolate covered matzah! My husband's nana makes a great chocolate covered matzah. It’s addicting! Once I start eating it, I can't stop!!!
4.) How do you participate in Jewish life in Phoenix?
I am head of the preschool committee at Chanen Preschool in Scottsdale. My daughter is graduating Pre-K this year and my son will be starting there in the fall. As the head of the preschool committee, I help plan the Chanukah Carnival as well as many other fun events throughout the year.
5.) What are some of the best tips you have for getting started with organizing?
Start small. Set goals. Plan it in your calendar. If you set time aside specifically for one goal, you can achieve it. If you start in one area of your house, even if it’s just a drawer, you won't feel overwhelmed and want to give up.
